John A. Stovall, "sanctimonious gasbag", also world-class twerp by
ann greenfield
How dare you question my integrity as well as my intelligence? If I
were devious enough to pull a stunt like that, do you think I would be
stupid enough to brag about it on a newsgroup?
First, the auction is from a private collection, each book bearing a
numbered slip, displayed in glass cases,...

I have the book "A little girl in old new york" by Amanda M Douglas. It
is a 1896 book. Right after the copyright page is page 112! The first
chapter starts on page 5 but on the other side of page 5 is page 108!
The next page is 105 and on the other side is page 8!...

Firsts Magazine Article about ABAA and eBay by
Art Layton
The current issue has reprinted a letter from Ken Lopez, President of
ABAA to Clay Kallman of eBay. The letter states that ABAA doesn't
believe there can be a successful relationship between the two
organizations unless eBay does something meaningful about fraud
related to book sales. Because of...

17th century collection by
John Yamamoto-Wilson
I'm working on an update of my collection of (mostly) 17th century material
about those who suffered for their beliefs during and after the Reformation.
Comments on the contents are very welcome, of course, but there are only
half a dozen or so additions since the last time I mentioned it here,...

Two Signing for the Price of One by
William M. Klimon
Although I had to scurry all over town this evening to do it, I managed to
get to (1) Michael Dirda's signing at the Library of Congress and (2)
Stephen Hunter's signing at a suburban Borders.
My two favorite Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post critics were kind
enough to sign,...

PocketPC reading bar codes? by
Mike Berro
I've been programming (playing) with my new PocketPC, and it would so nice
to attach a bar-code reader (or ISBN scanner) to it, scan in some books, and
transfer the data to my database on the PC. Has anyone looked into this? I'd
be happy to do the programming, but don't have much time to research...

Amazon Marketplace Feedback by
William M. Klimon
I've not seen it yet remarked here, but Amazon Marketplace (and I
presume Auctions and zShops, although I haven't used them in a couple
of years) has changed its feedback system.
The important changes, as I've noted them:
(1) Only buyer feedback regarding sellers registers as feedback
points. ...

Help me find a book please? by
fool4hws
Hello, I have never posted here before. I need some assistance and I
thought perhaps some well versed person here could help me.
About two years ago there was a beautiful red book on Japanese
culture, interior or fashion. It was written by a woman. The name
was something like Tan, Tao, Tai. I...

Sabbathday Lake, ME - Shaker Community by
Dough
I have an 1810 "Introduction to the English Reader" textbook published
in Boston. I understand that the availability of this age of book is
common; however it is interesting because it is stamped "Otis Sawyer"
and a handwritten No 100 is clearly marked on he inside cover.
Elder Otis Sawyer was an...

Hysterically Happy Non-Discovery by
paghat
This week I had e-mails from a young woman who had found a book she
believed to be a "lost" and "unknown" work of a Victorian fantasist. She
wrote to me asking how she could reveal this work to the public and be
assured of getting full credit from now on for its discovery. This was a
book she found...

Michael Shea's 'Fat Face' by
Yog-Bear
I really enjoyed Michael Shea's story, especially with it's
Lovecraftian mythos connections and my interest in that area. It seems
to have gone though a number of limited editions. The one I have is
denoted 'PC' and was Karl Edward Wagner's personal copy which I
acquired a few years ago. Can anyone...

"Happy Find" at a FOTL sale by
ann greenfield
Last Sunday I had a marvelous time at a local FOTL sale. Since brags
don't seem to go over very well any more, I'll call this a "happy find".
I had picked out more than 30 mysteries (all firsts, to either keep or
give to friends) when I spotted what I thought to be a pretty good SF
title...Orson...

Try this website: booksforever.com.
