namiki smells by [email protected]
I just opened an older bottle of Namiki blue ink. It has a horrible, sulfuric(?) smell. What would cause this and should I just toss it out?

Suggestions for an everyday FP by Greg
As I posted last week, I just got my Century II and I finally fixed the refill problem (no thanks to Cross), but now that I have a taste for quality writing, I'd like to step back into the FP world. First, a little background. I'm a pharmacy student so I write dozens of pages per week between...

Seeking imput from "ink veterans", please pass it on if you know of any... by Noodler
Noodler's made several choices early on in the strategy towards the production of better inks for the fountain pen. Unlike larger companies, we have the option of some of the most limited small volume production runs for ink in the world. Some of our inks encompass an entire family of properties...

Nathan Tardif by marlinspike
Is Nathan still around? The bookmark I have of his website doesn't work. Is he still doing plunger repairs? Mine has started inking out the back end. Thanks, Richard

Medical Prof. in this group?! PLEASE!? by Noodler
I posted a site regarding the issue (apologies for it not being about pens) of protein reactive dyes as they were developed in a certain set of labs over 100 years ago. A lawyer suggested I take it down as it gave out too much info., he was right...so now for some more limited info., the...

Copper Colored Inks by Smith
I had some Private Reserve Copper Burst ink that I used occasionally. The first bottle I had grew fungus (and was thrown out). The second bottle faded in color. I stirred (but didn't shake) the ink before I filled the pen, but the ink wrote a pale greenish-brown. I swished the bottle around and...

Could this be the best 20$ pen around? by Giovanni Abrate
We have a great new pen, called "Liu" which we are offering in a promotional sale for only $20, plus $5 for shipping. Solid, well made in lacquered brass, the "Liu" has a F/M nib that is rigid, but smooth. This pen comes from the Far East and is sold direct to the public in order to keep the price...

converter question by [email protected]
Is it just me or do these piston converters stink? On both the generics as well as the piston converter for my Platinum tortoise shell pen, the converters don't suck much ink up when loading ink from a bottle. I find that I have to take the converters and load the ink directly into the converter,...

New to the Ranks by Greg
I have lurked around for some time, but I am finally making my first post. I have always shown an interest in pens and writing instruments in general, but I finally made a plunge and bought my first 'expensive' pen. I know that 'expensive' is a highly relative term, (I used to be big in stereo...

Duofold imitations by [email protected]
Are there relatively inexpensive copies of the classic Parker Duofolds that can be bought today? Has anyone tried to make modestly priced (under $100) pens that look like the Mandarin Yellow or Big Red? I have a Big Red that I love but I fear losing it. So I only write with it at...

How many pen shows have you attended? If you've attended pen shows in different cities, which are your favorites and why? Me: Only one show so, there's no comparison.
