Brass plating by
A.Gent
I seem to keep coming across more and more references (here in RCC and
elsewhere) to "brass plated" coins and other items.
Google yields many references, including services that claim to brass-plate.
I understand how brass can be used to *clad* a base metal.
I understand how brass *be* plated...

eBay disingenuous policies by
A.Gent
(Skip this post if you're sick of "eBay is just a venue" thread.)
Apologies for beating this dead horse in such a long post, but...
eBay slapped me about the face this morning, and I'm in a ranting mood.
Here is their "policy" or "code of conduct" re...

Its 5:40am local (Sydney) and the moon is eclipsing.
She looks just like a mint error, settling into the misty haze over Sydney this
morning.

What is "whizzing"? - a little long, sorry by
A.Gent
In another recent thread the process of "whizzing" was mentioned and briefly debated.
It seems there is some controversy about the actual mechanism of this process and I
would be interested to canvass opinions from this NG.
Is "whizzing" simply the mechanical abrasion of a coin's surface (with a...

How's this for a funky bit of packaging? by
A.Gent
OK, its no big deal, but I thought it was kind'a cool.
We like to whinge about inadequate packaging, but get a load of this
other-end-of-the-extreme.
I just received my latest purchase from the 'bay, an 1849 "Godless" florin.
This is a 28mm (inch'n'a bit) coin (thereabouts).
It came packed in a...

Identifying modern restrike cartwheel pennies by
A.Gent
Some little while ago I was ranting about a Cartwheel Penny (or 2d) being
passed off on the 'bay as "UNC authentic".
I was dismayed, at the time, at not being able to find any current auctions
for correctly attributed restrikes of this famous coin.
But fear not! There are now quite a few...
