Bookplates by
Andy Dingley
Who uses bookplates, as a means of identifying their books?
Do you use them ? Do you apply them to all your books, or just a few ?
Where did you get them ? Buy them or make them ? Did you have them
printed to your own design, or overprinted with your own name ? Plain or
coloured ?
Are they...

OUP dictionaries by
Guido
Hello
I have a question ragrding the "design" of some OUP dictionaries.
Perhaps someone here knows more about this:
If i look at some older Oxford-dictionaries including the OED
they have these blue "sprinkled" edges. Newer dictionaries don`t have
this desing. My question: what sense has this...

Book repair by
my-wings
I've got a couple of not-very-valuable books where the end papers have
separated from the text block. It looks like a simple repair...I'm thinking
that I can scrape off the excess glue left on the text block portion and
just re-glue the free end paper at the joint.
I found this at...

Price label suggestions for used books? by
[email protected]
We're planning on opening a used bookstore in town here sometime early
in 2006 and have been collecting a decent inventory of used books for a
few weeks now. We're currently around 5k and growing, and ready to
begin processing them. About a third of our stock pre-dates bar coding.
We plan to...

Washington Irving - complete works 1850 -- needs a home. by
John Faughnan
We have a complete set of Washington Irving's works -- dated about
1850. Not in perfect shape (at least one book has a partly separated
binding) but quite readable.
We're looking for a home for these. Is there a place that would want
them? Otherwise we'll drop them by the local used bookstore,...

A Modest Proposal ( RCB is back to it's internal feuding...) by
Allison Turner-
Dear Rec.Books.Collecting Denizens,
I can appreciate that staying on-topic is somewhat stifling
to creative conversation and the free exchange of ideas, but
the current traffic here is anything if entertaining. To
to remedy this, I would like to make the following request:
Could those of you who...

Neat tricks you found in preservation/cleaning? by
telicalbook
I never realized this until about six months ago, but the ink that
college book stores use for their price stamps are completely eraseable
with a gum eraser. It barely takes any effort. It is some kind of
eraseable ink.
I used to look at them and think, "Isn't that a shame?"

Alteratives, Herbs, Other Vegetals by
Jerry Morris
In a recent thread, Allison Turner answered the following question:
To what field is 100 year old information on drugs relevant?
Allison replied:
Botanical medicine. In the US, at least, a large part of our medicine
from the 1600s through the very early 1900s was based on plants. After
1920 or...

transmissible to other books/pages).
I have agood understandingin chemistry, due to my...

John Pelan - Serial Liar by
Shelf Space
After using his wife's shooting to plug more books, John Pelan ignored
the household chores that she needed help with during her convalescence
to post this absurd claim:
"You started challenging people to fights on Ramsey Campbell's message
board."
The world awaits with baited breath Pelan's...

Michael Adams - Address Plea by

Michael Adams has been plaguing a UK TV Media group with his usual
brand of obnoxious argument, but has just stooped to making very
insulting comments about my wife.
If anyone can supply me with his UK land address I would be extremely
grateful. Please email me at...

Martin Luther's Samtliche Schriften First Edition 1740s by
Texas Book Collector
I recently acquired a full set of the 24 volume Martin Luther's
Samtliche Schriften compiled by J. G. Walch in the 1740's in Halle,
Germany. I bought the books for their beauty - I liked the vellum and
handlettered binding, but now I'm curious about the significance of the
books and their...

David Quammen Inquiry by

Hi. Just picked up a copy of David Quammen's The Soul of Viktor Tronko
(Doubleday 1987 Stated First Edition hardcover.) I was aware of his Song of
the Dodo nonfiction book and wanted to do some research on his other titles
as this particular one seemed odd as it's fiction. I checked the author...
