My "Cheap Slab" Story by
Michael Benveniste[_2_]
I'm now the proud owner of a 1967 10 Lirot Israeli Victory
coin in an NGC MS67 slab. Woo hoo! Could it make the
condition census?
Not only did I spend the slabbing fee for a piece that's
worth little more than its bullion value of $15.20, but
I paid an NCS conservation fee as well.
Why? For...

It's been a long, long time... by
EricBabula
Hello again, everyone! Yes, I've been on an extended leave of absence
from RCC - sorry about that, if you care. If you're happy about that,
sorry I'm back! Well, not really sorry.
I just started reading RCC on and off, again, and remembered all the
fun discussions we used to have. And I kinda...

There's more to it than meets the eye, in hand as well. If anyone comes
up with the right answer, they win my eternal admiration.

PING: oly by
Mr. Jaggers
A dealer friend and I were discussing the later coins of Scotland, and we
were both unable to account for the ratio of the Scottish shilling to the
British shilling, which seems to have been in the neighborhood of 24 to 1.
So, can you verify that to have been the exchange rate in the 1600s, and...

New US Mint Laser Frosting... by
MKW
is it just me or does the new laser frosting technique look kinda
wierd? What happened to doing it the old way with a polisher and
masking tape to mask out areas for blasting? The Boy Scout design
looks particularly bad with the laser frosting.

Liberty nickels? by
thermo102
First, I'm not a collector and don't think I want to get into it at this
time.
That said, I was recently given some coins which I believe were 'randomly'
kept by some of my in-laws. (now deceased)
The nickels caught my attention because I had never seen one before!
The dates a 1906, 1911,...

Can anyone identify a coin(s) for me please? by
Onderbaadjie
First, you will have to know about Asian Coins, it is "brass" looking,
is 2 cm across and a 5 mm hole in the center. There are 2 characters
on the bottom of one side and some type of grain like wheat or rice
bent into almost a half circle above the 2 characters. On the reverse,
3 slightly larger...

Halves still (randomly) getting confused as dollar coins by
Duh_OZ
Happened again today at a thrift store. Bill was $4.95 so I hand
over 2, $2's and 2 halves. The halves go under the till and the
cashier hands me $1.05 in change. I explain those were half dollars
so she lifts the till, looks them over and I hand back the $1. Then
she takes the halves and...

US Mint come through by
Scurvy Dog[_2_]
I rec'd my War Vets and Boy Scout BU dollars within 10 days of ordering them.
Both appear to be MS70, since I can't seem to spot a single flaw on them under
10X magnifcation.
Well done, US Mint.

Did anyone notice the ANA press release announcing that they are going to

My latest coin acquisition by
Mr. Jaggers
The Connecticut state coppers were dated 1785 through 1788, and comprise
pieces made from well over three hundred die pairs. They were made by
various individuals with varying degrees of skill under varying conditions.
Poor workmanship and materials plague these coins, and the survivors attest
to...
