Large Notes Rock!!! by
John Ahnen
Up to the recent past I have been primarily a collector of US coins.
Yesterday I received my first large US note, a 1923 $1 Silver certificate.
All I can say is WOW!! A new passion struck up.
I'm in big trouble now; last night I won a "Black Eagle" and a 1917 GW $1.
I may have to look at selling...

A very lucky bidder. by
note.boy
This note, and others he bought at a recent Spink auction, were ALL
undergraded by Spink as he now offers them on ebay at higher grades.

Spink graded it as "almost extremely fine" but it's actually...

Black market currency exchange rates by
Owen W. Linzmayer
As editor of the IBNS newsletter, I publish face values of new notes,
determined by the Bloomberg currency calculator. However, I recognize that
this represents only the office exchange rates.
Does anyone know of a similar site that provides real-world "black market"
rates for currency?

Guess the profile by
Duh_OZ
13 of 16, and the anemic blurring of the profiles made it much easier,
at least for me. Missed some of the foreign ones.

And nary a $2 bill question ;-( At least they asked about the half.

US introduces new $10 bill by
stonej
Sorry, no picture. Judging by the description I assume it is
of the same basic color combinations and enlarged head on the
face of the note as the other redesigned denominations.
Wire services will probably pick up a picture some time...

OK, so it's actually 2.9% plus 30 cents.
It's still a lot.

What was your first note? by
Michael E. Marotta
This is a carry-over from a similar discussion on
Rec.Collecting.Coins. For "note" you can include any of the forms of
paper money.
My first collectible paper money was a set of stock certificates from
Clinton Hollis. That was 1993 or so. However, I really never
considered myself a collector of...

Are Overgraded Slabbed Notes Ruining The Hobby by
Fiona Always
Unlike Ebay, where it is, after all, caveat emptor, and overgraded
notes are the rule rather than the exception; are overgraded and
processed notes in currency "slabs" the real danger to paper money
collecting?
In any major US currency auction, you can find notes that have been
processed and...

Are Most Modern Star Notes "Common?" by
Fiona Always
I pose this question because it seems that in the last 5 or so years
there has been an increasing awareness by even casual collectors that
star notes are printed in small quantities compared to most non-star
issues. Ebay is now awash with modern star notes fresh from the bank.
And, it is quite...

As fake as they can be by

Its the old "I'm not sure if they are real or not so I'm selling them as is".
I don't like that tactic at all.

$100,000 Gold Certificate by
Thomas Chao
I know there are only 2 or 3 $100,000 Gold Certificates survived and they
are all in the museums. No private individual ever own one.
Strangely, two persons in the past month asked me how much is one worth
because they have several and want to sell them. They claimed the notes are
genuine.One sent...

FA: Irish notes - some below face value by
line123
I've asked here a few days back about some Irish notes I have. Decided to
put them on Ebay. Thinking that someone in Ireland can buy them at below
face value and go cash them in at the Central Bank (as they're now
obsolete). Thought collectors might pay more than face for...
