I learned a new numismatic term today by
James Higby
From a British coin website:
claggy: having bits of congealed dirt or substance on the surface
To EAC members, this gunk is often referred to as "copper wax."
Either way, YUCK!

FA: Large Cents, Fine by
linxlvr
1 day left on the two large cants I am auctioning. The one photo had a
weird color shift, and won't sell now. If anyone thinks I am making it
up, note the color shift of the background also. :-( They are two decent
large cents, good for a type set. One (the earlier one) was cleaned, and
does have...

Why so many world coin dealers in Florida? by
Scot Kamins
Folks,
In my new quest for ever-cheaper means of having fun in the coin hobby,
I've been checking out eBay sellers of bulk world coins. I notice that
the vast majority of these guys all live in Florida. What accounts for
this odd statistical anomaly (albeit based on non-scientific...

So I found a website that tells all
http://www.math.niu.edu/~rusin/known-math/99/fallpenny
I was particularly taken by the mass and the area of the penny (that's a U.
S. zinc cent for the purists) in the English units,...

ID help: Spain 8 reales pre-1762 by
chris
http://www.geocities.com/threedumbbunnies/coin.htm
This appears to be an 8 reales from Spain. It's quite similar to the
C35.1 (sorry, old book) of 1762, which is the earliest one listed in
my Krause book.
Can anyone narrow it down further?
