Which is more valuable? by Earl Bollinger
Which is more valuable? Keeping a USMint coin(s) in their original holders and packaging or breaking them out and having them slabbed. To me it looks like a lot of people are breaking up a lot of the sets just to get a elusive MS69 coin. To me it looks like some kind of a lottery. How many sets get...

Observation about 1909 S VDB Lincoln cent by HeeHawkeye
From what I read, when the public found out that the VDB initials were to be relocated from the 1909 cent going forward after complaints, they snapped up rolls of the coins. Are the high MS number specimens that I see sold online most likely from those rolls? I see many VF condition ones for sale...

What did they do before coins? by Serenus Zeitblom
I have been reading about the ancient city of Ur, and I was thinking about the numerous shops that apparently were all over the place. Normally we think of barter as what happened before coins, but how could a *shop* operate that way? I mean, suppose I zip down to the local Ur mom-and-pop store and...

$1,000 Bag of Silver by QuantrelRaiders
I'd like to buy a $1,000 face value bag of silver, especially Kennedy halves. Some questions. What is the total weight of the bag? What is the total weight in ounces of silver in the bag? At $4.84 per ounce of silver, what should I pay for a $1,000 face-value bag of silver?

Auction sites other than eBay by Bill Krummel
Ok. EBay is where I sell virtually all my coins. It is where I buy most of the coins I buy. Other than eBay, I have bought and sold on Andy's UrBid, mainly because I like Andy and want to contribute, .....well, that's not quite true, I have picked up a few bargains and a number of...

Is there a way to remove the copper from a zinc penny?? by The Space Boss
Is there any way to "melt" the copper off of a zinc penny, so that you just have a regular penny made out of zinc?? I know you can file the copper off, etc., but I'm talking about removing the copper in such a way that the coin doesn't look crappy that it looks like a nice coin that was minted that...

New ANACS Slab Problems by Yo Momma's Boyfriend
I spoke with a dealer at a local show. We got to talking about the new ANACS slab. He mentioned to me that the newest version of the slab will pop open if dropped. It is also easy to insert your fingernail into the top of some and pop them open. He said he discussed the issue with James Taylor at...
