Question about $0.01 used book prices on Amazon by Nobody
Can anyone explain how can it be worth it for anybody to sell used books for $0.01 on Amazon? Even considering shipping allowance seller still has to go through the trouble of packing it, printing a label, shipping and also paying some fee to Amazon - all out of total $3.50. Where is the profit...

Warning: John Pelan Hacks Computers by Haunted River
After months of not-so-veiled references to having infiltrated by PC by John Pelan - which ran simultaneous with a sucession of PC problems, including the sudden deletion of a significant amount of data - I purchased a top-of-the-range internet security system and immediately discovered that...

Slighty OT - What to read next? by Tom L-M
Have just read many good books in the space of a couple of weeks and feel as though there is now a hole when books I am reading are not as enthralling as others. I really enjoyed Tartt's Secret History and Fowles' The Collector, The Graduate was also a great read in on sitting. So now I have...

So what's the deal on bookplates? by Al Smith
From time to time I've toyed with the idea of designing and printing up a bunch of bookplates, and gluing them into all my hardcovers. Two things stop me. One, it would be a considerable labor and expense. Two, I don't want to decrease the value of my books. What's the deal with bookplates? Do...

Thoughts on an RCB Website by Jerry Morris
My thanks go to Scott Kamins, Mike Berro, Jon Meyers and others for establishing the rec.collecting.books newsgroup in the first place. Wuzzes they were not. In the past, RCB has served its purpose in providing an avenue for the discussion of book collecting. It had a good run and helped guide...

On the wrapping of books by my-wings
I've just received several eBay purchases from different sellers...first editions of a mystery author I love (Emma Lathen) who -- fortunately for me, I guess -- doesn't seem to be too popular or pricey. But the way these books were wrapped got me to thinking. Some of the books were individually...

FYI: New Bilblio-thriller by Jon Meyers
Yesterday I happened across the newly published (in the US) _The Shadow of the Wind_ (o.t. _La Sombra del Viento_), by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Apparently it was a bestseller in Spain and throughout Europe, and it has gotten the inevitable comparisons to _The Name of the Rose_ and _The Club...

Your First by [email protected]
No, not THAT first. Your first experience in a used or antiquarian bookshop. The smell of dust and old leather? Since I've recently...
