Face Value by
Bones
What is the "official" face value of mules? I'm thinking the Sac
Dollar/State Quarter mule of a few years ago. But also currency that
has something like one dollar on one side and five dollars on the
other. If I took these legally released items to a bank, what would I
get for them? Or, if I got...

Buchanan's Liberty by
Beanie[_2_]
Got a delivery from the Mint today consisting of the Buchanan's Liberty BU gold,
a mint set and a clad proof set.
All arrived in excellent condition within 10 days of ordering.
I criticize the Mint frequently for their bungled management but they certainly
deserve credit when they do a good...

What do you use to manage your collection? by
Slor
I'm trying to find a good standalong coin collecting inventory/database for
managing my (primarily US) collection. Back in the 90s, I used a program
called WinCoin for a bit that had the whole database of US coins already
built in and allowed easy entry, tracking, etc. I unfortunately never...

Loonie set to go high-tech? by
Frank Galikanokus
We may be preparing to ditch the penny, but the more valuable Canadian coins could be
about to get a high-tech facelift,

A good overview of early U.S. coinage? by
Jerry Robinette
I've been collecting ancients and some world material for a few years
now, but am just starting to get interested in the early U.S. coinage
and currency. Can anybody recommend a good overview? I'm hoping to find
a book or website that provides a surface-level introduction to the
entire period, with...

Native American $1 coins at bank by
Paul Anderson[_2_]
My bank has had all new Presidential dollars for many months now and I
no longer get mixed rolls of SBA/Sac/Presidential coins. Lately it's
been all Abraham Lincoln coins.
This bank does not participate in the Mint program which supplies banks
with boxes of the latest design during the...

Hallmark stamped by
diamondadvisor
A hallmark protects you against fraud, and protects merchants against unfair competition. Gold and silver have been mixed with other metals for centuries, as they are much too soft in their original form to make jewellery. It is not possible to recognize at a glance the quantity of cheaper metals...

First Spouse by
Beanie[_2_]
After an initial run on the Mint for the limited edition First Spouse 1/2 ounce
coins, interest seems to have waned as the price of gold (and the Mint's
ludicrous markup) increased.
Checking the Mint web site, I notice that a BU Buchanan's Liberty is still
available.
The "Liberty" coins may...

Here we go again on the precious metal rollercoaster. Silver is
soaring, up about a dollar per oz, and gold moderately higher, about
$11 per oz.

Is the "finish" on uncirculated American Eagles supposed to be unevenin shine? by
Christopher Murray
I bought some from a dealer not too long ago on the internet. I'm just
curious if its normal for the shine not to hit the coin evenly. For
example, when light hits a quarter, its more or less even across the
coin, but on my American silver eagles, the light hits the coin in
circles or ovals so to...

OT (Beer): I didn't say it but... by
oly
This was not my post, elsewhere this morning, but it certainly sums it
up:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"Beer is the reason we have civilization.
Man needed to settle down and grow crops to insure a good supply of
grains for beer production.
