Did I do right with this purchase? by
mrskippy
OK I recently won an eBay auction for an NGC MS 63 1922-S Peace Dollar.
Auction closed at $9.95. With shipping, tax, and insurance it was about $18.
I found this listed on the PCGS pricing report that an MS 63 is valued at
$53, so I figured I got a decent deal. Is there much of a difference...

What do you do with crap coins? by
The Avocado Avenger
Me again, still going through my dad's coins - I'm now getting to
individual coins which dad got for free or as premiums, and which truly
and well stink. One is a 1943 half that's been buffed so hard there are
no details left, but it's so shiny! Right. Not worth a damn thing. What
do you do...

Still more on test cuts by
Reid Goldsborough
Earlier there was some sometimes interesting conversation about test
cuts in ancient coins -- how merchants or money changers would
sometimes take a chisel to a coin to see if the inside were of good
metal. Some seemed to question whether test cuts were real, it they
actually happened in antiquity,...

Does an NGC grade rate more respect than other grading by
Ira Stein
Julia Alveres wrote:
Actually some rcc members here prefer to crack open PCGS and NGC slabs
and sell the coins raw. They claim buy the coin not the holder so I
guess they sell the same way. They lose a little on every sale but
they make it up in volume.
I doubt that very much as you...

1804 Half Cent Question About Crosslets? by
Ira Stein
Mickey asks:
Excuse my ignorance, but..
A seller who I buy from a lot has cent me a "GG 1804 Half Cent for
evaluation to see if I want to buy it. He says he IDs it as having
stems and crosslets. I got the stem part, but what are the crosslets?
Thanks.

Old Red Book, anyone? by
Chrysta Wilson
Posting the advice I just did to the guy who asked about the key dates
made me think about the profusion of Red Books I've got laying around
here. I've bought one every year since 1998. If anyone (including
the guy who originally asked the question) wants one and doesn't mind
that it will probably...

Hear Ye! Contest! by
Chrysta Wilson
In honor of the generosity I have received from RCCers of late, I am
holding a contest. Nothing overly spectacular, but certainly worth more
than the winner will pay! ;o)
The prize is an EFish 1893 Columbian Exposition half. No major problems,
looks like a little bit of a rim ding, dark toning....
