A second hand copy of a book yet to be published by
Francis A. Miniter
Today, July 9, 2003, I had a most unusual literary experience. I
purchased (for $2), at a second hand bookstore, an unread copy of a book
yet to be published.
There is a "Friends of the Library" bookstore in the next town that
takes donated books and sells them at tag sale prices to raise money...

Public Domain Issues - UK by
Tom
Reading a few websites has got me thinking that I may try to reprint some
old works that I own - if they have fallen into the public domain. A few
items in my own collection, I am hoping, would probably be eligible -
however I am not totally sure of UK copyright laws.
For example, I am pretty sure...

Question and maybe a brag by
Tim Crawford
A few weeks ago I picked up a nice copy of Helen MacInnes "Above Suspicion"
at a flea market for $2. Recently I learned that it was her first book and
looking at it more closely I am wondering if it is a First American Edition.
Little, Brown and Company, Boston, 1942 on title page. Copyright 1941...

The Survival Rate of Books by
HFB
Hello,
Would really appreciate your collective assistance in a matter of some
importance to me. Has there ever been a study on how long the _average_
hard cover book survives (the DW is not of concern here, only the
preservation of the book)? I would like to be able to estimate how many
books of...

A Book Collector's Book Collecting Book by
Francis A. Miniter[_2_]
Acquired today, The Cambridge Bibliography of English
Literature (600 - 1900). While it does not provide the
level of detail that the Bibliography of American Literature
provides, (for instance, it notes four editions of Waverly
in Edinburgh in 1814, but fails to distinguish which is
which)...

"Book Sales" remainder catalog - how to find? by
Sophie Borodin
Hello,
In the very helpful article Jessica Amanda Salmonson wrote, "Where Do
Booksellers Find All Those Books?"
(http://www.violetbooks.com/where-oh-where.html), she mentions "the
generically named "Book Sales" catalog. I did a Yahoo search to try
and find it, but such a generically named place...

Fraudulent Ebay Seller - John Pelan by
Shelf Space
Just a short warning to those thinking of buying books from John Pelan
who sometimes trades under the name of MIDNIGHT HOUSE BOOKS.
Pelan lost his job a few months ago and has been desperately trying to
offload his junky book collection on Ebay. These are some of his more
questionable antics:

Little Blue Books? by
scotkamins
Folks,
I recently discovered a series of numbered books (pamphlets really,
about 64 pages each) called the Little Blue Books. These guys started
around 1919 and there are around 2,000 titles (more, actually). I think
I'd like to start a collection of these. Anybody know where I can buy a
large...

Two Possible Additions to FAQ by
BrainstormingSW
Hi, I've greatly helped in collecting/bookselling via this newsgroup,

However, there has been a recent problem that I think perhaps the FAQ could
have addressed. I recently found about five books that I wanted that had some
