A collection of two books by
Jon Meyers
Some time back, someone wondered whether or not a "collection", properly
speaking, could consist of as few as two books. To demonstrate that it
can, and that there is no niche so narrow that someone hasn't squeezed
into it, I offer the article, "An Analysis of America's Two Threshing
Novels,"...

Quotations dealing with books by

Has anyone got a favorite quotation that deals with book collecting?
Francis Bacon: " Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and
some few to be chewed and digested; that is, some books are to be read only
in parts; others to be read but not seriously; and some few to be read...

All praise to R. Dunaway, Bookseller... by
Jerry Morris
Dear Annibale et al,
Here's a link to Goldwater discussing the NYC bookshops of the thirties
and forties. It's from Ralph Dumain's Autododact Project, and is on my
Moi Recommends list. I grew up in New Yorker myself, but didn't start
collecting books until I was stationed in England in the late...

still life a.s. byatt by
Poet's Pulpit
Hi everyone!
I'd first like to thank Francis for the Hemingway question.
I have a paperback copy of A.S. Byatt's Still Life published by Collier
Books. Is it normal to have pages 375 to 384 at the start of the book
or is this a misprint. A friend of mine told me about another book by a
mystery...

All praise to R. Dunaway, Bookseller... by
Jonathan
Yesterday was hot in St. Louis. Grand Blvd. was noisy and crowded.
I went into Mr. Dunaway's shop and browsed for an hour. It was cool,
quiet and organized. I found two fairly-priced books (obscure and of
interest,
I imagine, only to me). I bought them and spent half the night
reading one...

old man and the sea by
Poet's Pulpit
Hello,
I have a copy of "The Yearling" and know this to be a true first
because of the "A" on the copyright page, but what does it mean when a
book, like my copy of "Old Man and the Sea" has "Q-8.59" on its
copyright page? Both books are published by Scribners.
Cheers,
Robert
