Expert mark, or control mark??? by wolfb
Hello fellows, Check out this scan. What is going on here? I read a recent thread that the Railroad stamps of Bavaria are common, and of not much value. What does the back stamp mean...is it an expert mark, or a control mark? If it is an expert mark, why "waste" it on a cheap stamp. I just...

Tactile interests by wolfb
It's funny how tactile stamp collecting can be. I love the way my stamps feel when I rub my hand over the glassine interleaving with the stamps underneath. It is satisfying in some sort of way. I love the way my albums feel when I handle them and get them off the shelf. It is like handling...

Restoration system for Scott International's by wolfb
I have been perfecting this system for some time and wonder if anyone would like to see how it is done? I don't have a web page (don't ask me why) and it would take some time to put together my photos, but I'm not going to bother if no one is interested. The Hook...How many of you have Scott...

How much would you pay for a bottle of Benzene? by wolfb
Back in the old days, before it's hazards were known, stamp collectors used Benzene as a watermark fluid. Today we use lighter fluid, or some other volatile liquids for such things. Benzene is super volatile, and in its pure form leaves no trace or residue on the stamp. Benzene is...

GB catalog values high?? by wolfb
A month or so ago I met with a local collector who had some early Great Britain to sell. It was a pretty decent lot, condition not withstanding and he had cataloged them with the current (2005) Scott CV. I had my trusty 1995 Classic Scott catalog with me and was amazed at the price...

current CV wanted Michel#'s early semi-postal by wolfb
Hi fellows, I just picked up a collection of general early stuff and need the CV for some German semipostal #'s. They will be sold, as I need to recoup my investment. I don't have the most recent catalog of Michel and would appreciate if you could look these up for me. In the section "Deutsche...

Got any 1953 Liberia Birds you want to part with? by wolfb
Well, now that I have re-established myself as a participant and fellow stamp collector, I'd like to know if anyone out there has an interest in the 1953 Liberia Bird issue. I'm collecting all varieties of errors and mistakes and proofs of this issue if you have some to trade, I have other Liberia...

That attempt pretty much sucked by wolfb
At least 4 years ago we got 4-5 people to put up snaps of their stamp space. It seems like people are paranoid about it. Well, think about it like this....just by posting on this forum, you expose yourself to predation. Someone is going to see my post/pix and tatget my home/space for a...

What does your stamp area look like? by wolfb
We have been here before with mixed responses as some of you will remember. I thought I'd try this again and see what happens. I think it will be fun. Included are links to photos of my main areas. http://www.southslope.net/~paradimes/stampdesk.jpg This is my stamp desk. You will notice for...

"funny face cancels" by wolfb
Why are these unwanted? A recent buy ad from a local dealer listed several modern commems used to buy at $0.10 each, but stipulated no "funny face cancels" wanted. I'd think they would bring a premium, especially if they had all the faces and such on the stamp. What do you think? Wolf-==-

German Occupation Czech/Poland Cat. listing? by Wolf
Hello Fellows, I just picked up some German occupation overprints and couldn't find any catalog listing for them. I checked Michel specialized and under "Freidek" or "Wir sind Frei" and could not find anything. Any idea on these or where they might be listed. Kind of strange that Michel doesn't...

Inherited Album by wms
Hi all Over the weekend I somehow inherited a stamp album off my mother. From what I gather about it, a large number of the stamps in it came from a neighbour of hers back in the late 1940`s, and she continued to add to it up until about 1955 (give or take a couple of years). Basically I plan...
