Gibbons vs. Scott (GB Queen Victoria)? by
Larry
Scott lists an 1857 Queen Victoria two pence blue stamp, number 21, as type A2
(this is Gibbons type 3), perf 14 on white paper. I do not find this in
Gibbons. Is it hidden there somewhere? If not, why is it not listed? (Maybe
Gibbons 35 with no blue paper visible?)

Japanese Question continued by
Stamps4ra
Since the original post was becoming a bit cluttered, a new post seems like a
good idea.
Japanese Prefectures: The information in the original post is correct. I
would like to add that Scott catalog originally listed the Prefectures along
with the commemoratives but having second thoughts they...

Criteria for catalogue listings by
Roger Smith
"It seems to me that the only reason for the catalogues not listing
these in full is that they are not universally available throughout
Japan. Yet the UK "regional" issues are not available throughout the
UK (except at Philatelic Counters). I fail to see any significant
difference - and I bet that...

Curiosity Corner #127: Omnibus by
Rodney
The full 1991 Royal Birthdays set.
A large b/w scan 330 Kb
Notable for two reasons for myself.
1.Prior to this I would have bet Prince Philip had not appeared by himself
on more than just a few issues, worldwide.
2. In 2-3 yrs collecting, the issuing authority " Zil Elwannyen Sesel"
had never...

Japanese question by
amesh \(Mette\)
A friend has just pointed me to this link
http://yushu.or.jp/english/e_sdate/index.html
which I find rather interesting.
As I know absolutely nothing about Japanese philately, I wonder what
Prefectural stamps, as opposed to Commemoratives and Definitives, are?
Could someone please explain the...

[question] About new Belgian stamp catalogues by
Malte Tanner
Hello,
My question is: When does either the OCB catalogue or the COB catalogue get
released per year and if where is it possible to purchase a catalogue from
either this or that producer?
thanks in advance, Malte

OHEMS by
TC Blair
I myself have heard two possibilities for OHEMS.
From the BNA Phil Soc web site:
Bob asks: "This is a cover sent from Cairo to Treesbank, Manitoba in
1927. What does O.H.E.M.S. mean? Please elaborate rather than
providing just the words the initials stand for."

Any Aust Specialists aboard? by
Rodney
I was wondering about the vast colour change
in these 2 issues (The std version is on the LHS)
http://groups.msn.com/Stamps/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=520
I would think they be chemically altered, but why on a cheap stamp?
and the other colours remain quite strong and deep.
I looks like...

Saudi Arabian Secours by
A.E. Gelat
Sorry, but my previous reply was irrelevant. I wrote of the Egyptian Guerche
instead if the Saudi Guerche. Both are the same, a relic of the old Turkish
currency of 40 paras = 1 guerche. The Saudis did not use the para, but
fractions of the guerche. The 1/8 (one eighth) was thus worth 5 paras. ...

Serbian Postal rates by
TC Blair
Further to the other thread, here are postal rates for Serbia
(Hope I got it right. Source was in Serbian only)
Note: 1 Euro = 64 Dinars; 1 US$ = 60 Dinars
There are stamps denominated in Dinars only (Serbian use), in Euro
only (Montenegran use), and in both currencies (use by both).
Standard...

New Art set from San Marino in November by
TC Blair
Famous Artists
Painting is the representation of shapes, perceived sensorially or
imagined intellectually; it is the creation of an image by means of
lines and colors. Paintings are fascinating, they lend themselves to
many imaginative or speculative interpretations.
Three artists who lived and...

New John Wayne stamps are nice by

Just bought a sheet of 20 at the post office yesterday. Judging by how many
they still had it looks like they are selling fast, probably won't have any
left next time I go to the P.O.

Egypt Overprints by
amesh \(Mette\)
In a lot received today I found these Egypt overprints
http://shoebox.heindorffhus.dk/EgyptOvpt.jpg
What does O.H.H.S. mean? Something with "On His ... Service"?
What were they used for? Where do I look for them in the catalogues?
I am really getting far and wide around the world these days :-)...

well, you did ask :)
BTW, our "bits and pieces" Platypus continues to amaze.
after recent dna mapping, the platypus is found to be more related to spiders
than anything else.
