Advice sought by a rank beginner by Dave Rude
Hello, Certainly not a brag, but I have about 500 books adorning my walls, and some are quite old. Would someone suggest a "beginners" book on book collecting or a good website to me please? I do fancy Jack Higgins, Robert Ludlum, and if pressed for the whole truth, Ian Flemming. Ken Follet and...

Mis-bound book values by Keith Williams
Hi! How much value (if any) does having a mis-bound book add to its value? I have a mis-bound Order of the Pheonix from the Harry Potter series and didn't know how rare this was. One entire section 50+ pages repeats itself (replacing what should have been there). Any insight is much appreciated.

Anyone with get scammed by Ebay book sellers? by [email protected]
I am writing a magazine article regarding the increasing amount of fraudulent booksellers on ebay. I would love to hear stories of anyone who either has information or has themselves been scammed when trying to buy books on ebay (or even if YOU were the scammer!). I've noticed a lot of booksellers...

question about cleaning books with alcohol by bookkeeper
Hello, I've been ferreting about looking for ways to handle cleaning up cloth-bound books that have some minor mildew. These are not books for resale, but books that have recently come into my care. What mildew there is is very minor (on a scale of 1-10 it's about a 0.5). To the best of my...

To Kill a Mockingbird - book collecting question by Castle
Hello, I bought a TKAM book at a local book fair. I was initially overjoyed as I thought I had bought a rare first edition copy. But now I am not so sure - and I hope that someone can help clear my confusion. My edition of To Kill a Mockingbird does not have the dustcover. Inside the third page...

John F. Kennedy Signature by Scrooge
I know it's very, very, very doubtful, but I thought I'd ask. http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=2/5821173739.jpg&s=x402 I have no reason to believe this is a forgery for monetary gain. I bought it at a library sale for 50 cents. It is on the front free endpaper of a beat-up book club edition of PT...

Water damaged poster by Susan
I recently found a numbered print rolled up in a poster tube. The problem is it has been water damaged at some point and therefore stuck, unable to unroll. The poster is very much of interest to me and my employment, not of value otherwise that I know of. Any idea how I might remedy this in...

A Littel Boasting by Willow Arune
Well, with three sales now under by belt, as it were, I have topped $10,000. The last - 22 books for $3000. It seems I have discovered a market, one that needs little tending. The total advertising for the three sales was six e-mails outbound. I think I'll keep this going for time. My...

Making books your own by Bill Palmer
It occurs to me that some of the disagreement which arises in this newsgroup crops up because a number of posters write from the standpoint of the dealer and/or investor, rather than from the collector with a love of books. While in many cases the resulting viewpoints do not need to conflict at...

GLIMPSES OF A MYSTERY by GLIMPSES OF A MYSTERY
