1st edition pointers by
Rayner
I just picked up a hardback copy of Terry Pratchett's _Equal Rites_ from
a charity shop for the princely sum of £1.29. It looks, to my untrained
eye, very much like a first edition, and I'm wondering if anyone here
could tell me if there's an infallible way of telling whether it's a true
first...

1st edition, Man Who Laughs 'photoplay' 1928 by
[email protected]
I have the first edition, not of the original publication of Victor
Hugo's The Man Who Laughs but the one that was released in 1928 in
conjunction with the Veidt film.
It's in good shape, except the very front page has been torn out,
leaving a 'stub' about a quarter inch wide. (I presume this was...

1st editions vs. collector editions by
JenniferJiselle
I am new to collecting so pardon my ignorance. I recently read that it may be more valuable in the long run to collect leather-bound collector book copies rather than 1st editions. I question this and ask for some statement by an authority about this. Thank you.

1st or 2nd edition?? by
ChessRMe
Please help me resolve an inquiry over whether a book is a first or second
edition:
The book is "Point of Impact" by Stephen Hunter, published by Bantam books in
1993. I have seen two "editions" of this book:
One has a printing line 987654321 with no reference on copywrite page as to
"First...

2 insignificant but interesting acquisitions by
M Hill
In the auction lots I mentioned earlier, I found 2 books which are
neither important nor valuable but seem interesting enough to write
up about.
On reexamination of a 19th century novel I was unfamiliar with I
noted that the cover describes the author of Shirley as also having
written Jane Eyre. ...

2nd printings by
Mike Berro
I just read in Locus magazine that a book that had a first print run of 100K
copies has gone back to press for another 15K copies. As an old collector,
this does not make the 2nd much more desirable to me; the 1st is better.
Does anyone think otherwise?

I'm very skeptical but I agreed to post the information he has so
that people who actually know something about books can give their
opinion. The books are as follows:
(1) Author: Catherine D. Bell
Title: Horace and May; or...
