Researching Japanese books by
John R. Yamamoto-Wilson
After months of technical difficulties and inertia, I have finally made
a start on providing links and information aimed at helping
non-Japanese speakers to track down and identify Japanese books.
The link is:

Do books have Karma? by
David Wood
In my 20 years of book collecting there were books at times that had a
feel to them. Some positive and a few negative. Inside some of them they
appeared neglected and soiled (bad vibes) while others with gracious
presentations notes had a very pleasant feel to them.
I have come to believe that...

Pilgrim's Progress by
Bunyan
I inherited several books from my Aunt's estate, some of which I think
may be first editions.
I am looking for help in dertimining quality and value.
The first book I am investigating is an Altemus' Edition of Pilgrim's
Progress. The copyright is 1891.
Outside of a 1" tear on the lower outside...

Help to identify unknown book by
igs
Can anyone help me identify the book described in the following
paragraph:
"I drew a volume from my pocket; blind-tooled on the green in a double
circle was a single star above what was perhaps a sea. It was the tenth
edition, of 1917."
The paragraph above was written in the 1930s, and the...

Antique books on science, technology and engineering - there is a newsgroup by
mario
I tried to fill a void and created
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/antique-science-books/
I imagine it requires a certain level of nerdiness to be part of such a
group, but it is fun and you can meet interesting people - even though it's
only 3 of us at the moment :o)
Have a looksie, and if you...

Selling Books by
BookFriend
I am new to buying and selling books. I have two books of value Clive
Clussler The Sea Hunters II and Politics of the Northwest Passage. What
a good way to sell these books as I am not a big book seller so I can't
afford to use alibris or abebooks?

Dunning brand wrist splints... by
Robert Harmon
....must do wonders for writers cramp, at least if all of the books listed
on eBay & addall.com purporting to be signed by John Dunning were in fact
signed by him. I thought the term 'prolific writer' referred to an author
with many books to his/her credit?

Anti-FAQ alert by
William M. Klimon
Usually, the best of these come from eBay:
http://pages.prodigy.net/kris.baker/collectibles/antifaq.html
But I just found one on ABE. Of course, ABE has its share of lousy
information, but it's usually not so humorously phrased.
A listing for a first of Arturo Perez-Reverte's THE FENCING...

Book Storage in Garage : Use of a de-humified car bubble? by
Ben McCormack
Hello all
Put simply we love books and we now have rather too many in the house.
We also have a great double length garage that we could put the books
in for a few years until we get a bigger house.
BUT
The garage is obviously not 100% damp free and not the idea place to
store books long term.

What's a "Publisher's Mark"? by

sale for much cheaper than the other sellers. The seller says
that the boook "MAY HAVE A PUBLISHER'S MARK".
What does this mean? Is this a book that was reported as
destroyed to...

Stealth Press? by
William M. Klimon
Recently found a bunch of Stealth Press editions from c. 2001--mostly
reprints of one- or two-decades-old thrillers. Very attractively
produced, these copies appear not to have been read--I'm guessing a
batch of review copies that never were reviewed.
I take it Stealth flamed out not too long...

TimesBooks edition question by
my-wings
I picked up a book by Times Books, which is a division of Random House. It
has a number line of 9876542 followed by the words First Edition.
I know there are other divisions of Random House (Villard leaps to mind)
that follow the Random House convention of number lines beginning with "2"
and...

Pricing variability query by
Matthew Hill
I was checking prices for a first of the "Letters of J. R. R. Tolkein"
published by Houghton Mifflin in 1981.
There are two copies on AddAll. One at $12, the other at 10 times as
much. Now there is apparently some difference in condition, but the
low priced one isn't that much of a dog. Is the...

Cantor90
Can someone tell me what "Z.9.70" means, as found on the copyright page of
"The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (Harcourt, Brace & World,
1943, no other date. Would it indicate a 1970 reprint?
Thanks--Terry

What is the best Edgar Allen Poe book to buy? by
[email protected]
Not to quibble, but it IS Edgar ALL*A*N Poe...
This is a matter which could be debated at length.
If you are simply interested in reading Poe, then
all you have to do is compare content indexes of
various volumes in bookstores and libraries and
choose the book with largest number of stories
and/or...
